SQL Server backup on Windows Azure with Iperius
Iperius is one of the most complete backup solutions on the market and allows you to perform integrated (or hybrid) backups, even very complex ones, to different destinations.
With Iperius, it is possible to back up any database, without any limitations on number or size, and transfer it automatically to online storage services. A typical case is the backup of SQL Server databases to Microsoft Azure Storage, with which Iperius ensures perfectly secure and fully automated database backups (including compression and AES 256-bit encryption).
As mentioned, Iperius makes it extremely easy to combine different backup methods. Therefore, to back up SQL Server to Azure, the first step is to create a backup of the SQL Server database, as shown in the following guide:
How to back up SQL Server with Iperius Backup
Next, among the backup destinations, you need to add an Azure Storage destination, as illustrated in the following tutorial:
Backup to Microsoft Azure Storage
Thanks to the combination of these two simple steps – configuring a SQL Server backup (or any other database) and setting up a destination on Azure Storage – you can create data backups in a geographically different location, protecting them from hardware failures, catastrophic events, theft, cyberattacks, or ransomware viruses. Moreover, using multiple accounts and different cloud services ensures high data redundancy, supported by the security offered by the HTTPS protocol and Iperius’s AES 256-bit encryption.
Iperius not only effectively protects databases, ensuring compliance with the latest data protection regulations, such as GDPR, but also allows you to maintain a well-organized history of backup copies, making it easy to restore a database to a specific date. The recovery can be done automatically directly with Iperius, on the same database or a new one. Alternatively, the database can be restored using SQL Server’s native tools, such as Management Studio, as the backup files generated by Iperius are compatible with SQL Server’s standard format.
